We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty, to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land, and it derives its entire authority from us— from "We the People". Not from political parties, not from the several states, not from "god" (whatever you imagine that to be) and certainly not from the Christian God, and most assuredly not from the occupant of any political office, whether elected or appointed.

From us.

And it is our responsiblity, not to mention our right, to ensure that our government answers to us. We do this in many ways, but foremost among them is by voting. Whether we vote to keep the status quo or to throw the bastards out (and replace them with bastards more to our own liking), the only way to demand any measure of accountability whatsoever is to VOTE.

Go. Vote. You have no right to bitch about how bad things are, if you don't take that minimal effort to make your voice heard. Hold your nose and choose the least bad of the options available, if that's all you have open to you— and pledge to work to ensure that better options, better candidates, better propositions and resolutions and questions and initiatives are on the ballot next time. But vote.

Vote today.

It is not the only way to demand accountability. It is, however, the most civilized. By this time tomorrow we'll know if merely being civilized will be enough.
