We'd been considering getting a couple of kittens, ever since Shadow crossed the Rainbow Bridge this summer. And when Troublesome disappeared (shortly after coyotes started hanging about the property), our remaining cat, Jasmine, seemed unusually lonely.
We almost got a pair of kittens last month, but the deal fell through when the adopting agency insisted they be kept indoors in perpetuity. Of course, given the predator problem hereabouts, we now expect all our cats will be mostly indoors— but not 100% of the time, especially on five acres. So, as I said, the deal came undone.

riverheart heard about some foundlings through an ad she'd placed on craigslist; their human has housecats and a coterie of neutered ferals whom she feeds, but four four-week-old younglings magically appeared on her doorstep about a month ago. By the time we could get to see them today, two (the female and one of the males) were already spoken for; but the other two boycats weren't, and so now they're ours.
The kittens are eight weeks old, have had their shots, and appear in good health and spirits. They're both tuxedo cats, much like Jasmine but without her bulk. Likely they'll never be as big as she is; we suspect her of being part Maine Coon. We'll have then neutered as soon as feasible, and expect them to be with us for quite a while.
They haven't told us their names yet— for the moment, we're leaning toward Castor and Pollux, although Rack and Ruin may well be more appropriate. Or possibly Rattle and Hum; they both have raucous purrs, but one is more forthcoming with the purrage while the other (the beta of the pair) is more reticent.
We'll have pictures by and by, if they can be persuaded to stay "in shot" long enough for the electronic shutter to trigger.
