riverheart is unwell
Dec. 9th, 2003 06:34 pmWe needed to go to the Credit Union ATM last night before proceeding to the grocery store for needed supplies.
Unfortunately, Evil Curb Monsters grabbed
riverheart by the ankle, causing her to stumble wildly across the pavement, and swiftly fall headlong on the sidewalk, striking her upper right cheekbone against a protusion on the building's facade.
I was out of the car and at her side in a flash, where she lay moaning in severe pain. She didn't look too badly hurt, but complained of severe back and shoulder pain she'd twisted as she fell, trying to mitigate the impact and of course she had hit her head. Rather than go on to the store, I decided we should seek medical care.
The Urgent Care Clinic was literally just across the street, so off we went. After an hour or so of puttering about and finding no particular damage, the M.D. on duty recommended a cranial C.A.T. scan, "just in case". The only such device in Kitsap County was at Harrison Hospital, about a half-hour's drive away (which they trusted me to make since
riverheart didn't appear to be in immediate danger).
Friends, we were at the hospital from a little after 8:00 p.m. until two in the effing morning, waiting for our turn to get scanned. It was the full moon, you see, and everybody else in Kitsap County decided to have seizures, strokes, and suchlike and all of them got put ahead of us in the triage queue.
Suffice it to say that by the time the diagnosis of "no damage" was made, both
riverheart and I were Tired Puppies. I got us home somehow, put My Beloved to bed, fed our very patient and forgiving Toller, and got just over one hour of sleep before having to awaken and head off to school this morning.
riverheart is taking Vicodin for the pain and a muscle relaxant for the wrenched back and sides, so she probably won't be commenting in her journal for a couple of days.
I'll keep y'all posted, okay?
